ABOUT
Marcello Martínez Vega is an Ecuadorian-German experimental artist whose practice moves fluidly between installation, painting, sculpture, video, sound, and found objects.
Rooted in personal experience, travel, and long term encounters across cultures, his work explores the complex realities of Ecuador’s pluricultural and multilingual society. Particular attention is given to Indigenous, Afro-Ecuadorian, and mestizo communities, their histories, knowledge systems, and relationships to territory and nature.
In recent years, the Amazon has become a central field of his artistic research not simply as a geographical region, but as a living ecological, cultural, and spiritual space. His work reflects on questions of identity, memory, displacement, environmental fragility, and our shared responsibility toward the natural world.
Born in Ecuador, Martínez Vega has made Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, his second home, where he lives and works. His artistic practice creates a dialogue between these different worlds, connecting Latin America and Europe through lived experience, critical observation, and poetic visual language.
